Evelyn Gonzalez Union

On September 22, 2011 Evelyn Gonzalez filed a petition with the National Labor Relation Board to be certified as a representative of the banquet employees for collective bargaining. She won that petition.

MY STORY

Hi, my name is Evelyn Gonzalez.  I am the President of the Evelyn Gonzalez Union (EGU). Evelyn Gonzalez Union is the exclusive certified representative of the banquet staff for collective bargaining.  

I am from Puerto Rico. I have worked in the hospitality industry over 30 years as a server and manager. I am an entrepreneur. I have also been on a clear holistic and spiritual path for more than 20 years. I am an interfaith minister, a Reiki master and a psychic healer. It is important that you know my background,  so you can understand who I am.

My background and also the stories and support of my coworkers gave me the confidence and courage to create EGU. This venture is a mission and a spiritual journey  for me. This union was created with much sacrifice and courage to bring divine justice, dignity, equality, and respect into our workplace and to secure our employment after winning the largest lawsuit settlement of 8.5 million in our industry with our employer .

This union was created for you (the servers) to provide you with the service and care that you deserve and need. I care about you and you career because in you I see myself. I know what you go through dealing with multiple people from different backgrounds, multi- tasking in the weeds,  and finding the necessary energy to work back-to-back shifts.

It is a challenging experience for me to see the fear in some of my coworkers. I am a fearless person because I know the truth and truth always set one free. My belief in love   and divine justice motivates my every thought, word, and action. These beliefs become a living reality in my heart and this allows me to govern every circumstance in my life. In the midst of conflict I center my thought on love and divine justice initiates the just and right outcome for everyone involved. "My judgment is just." John 5:30.

I am honored that my coworkers trust and support me in this venture. It shows you how powerful we all can be when we decide to work together as a team for a common goal.  I am proud of all of you. You are wonderful, intelligent, talented, creative, and unique servers, and EGU is a tribute to all of you.
